It was posed to me many years ago that Nature greets us every time we step outside. When I heard this, I began to see what I noticed first upon stepping outside. Sometimes I would notice that the wind would pick up. Hmmm. Maybe I needed to work with the element of air which to me means working with the mental realm of thoughts and inspirations. Sometimes I would notice moisture whether it would be rain, snow, fog, etc. Hmmm. Maybe I needed to work with the element of water which to me means working with emotions, flexibility, and goin with the flow. Other times I would notice bright sunshine or heat. Hmmm. Maybe I needed to work with the element of fire which to me meant creative and / or destructive patterns, passion, and letting the past go.
I am not saying that the above descriptions of what the elements meant to me is universal. It is just what my intuition tells me about my own self work. You might encounter these elements and have your own meaning or understanding of them. As always trust your gut.
Ways to work with the elements :
Meditate on them. Call them forth mentally and see what comes to mind. What do you notice about these elements? Do you notice certain thoughts, emotions, or reactions? These things could be indications of what the element means to you and / or what you need to work on.
Mentally ask the elements to communicate with you, to share their energy and wisdom.
Try to embody different aspects of the elements. For example : Earth , focus on grounding, being solid and supportive, help someone or something to grow, be nurturing. Air – Be soft, uplifting, letting things go like clouds drifting by, do breathing exercises. Water – try to adapt to current circumstances like water flowing around a boulder, focus on finding clarity, work with your emotions. Fire – break down things that no longer work or serve you, breathe passion into a project, get creative.
Wear colors that remind you of the different elements.
Study and research stones and minerals. Many have properties that are aligned with specific elements. Carry these stones with you. Wear them in jewelry. Even visualize certain surfaces like your walls, floors, and ceilings are made of these stones. I like to work with Rose Quartz. It reminds me of fire, love, and compassion. I live in an apartment and imagine that my shared walls are made of Rose Quartz so that any energies that move through these shared walls are filtered through the Rose Quartz energy. The possibilities are endless!
Consider taking time to notice predominant elements around you. Be willing to work with them all, whether you are drawn to them or not. Working with all elements helps to create and maintain balance. These elements are the basic building blocks of life and energy. They can be our allies. Use them wisely.
Blessed Journeys,
Matt
